"Need for Speed" mini-review
« on: September 12, 2013, 05:07:35 PM »

The series released its first title, The Need for Speed in 1994. Initially, Need for Speed was exclusive to the fifth generation video game consoles, eventually featuring in all seventh generation consoles by 2008. The titles consist of racing with different cars on various tracks, with some titles including police pursuits in races. Since Need for Speed: Underground, the series has integrated car body customization into gameplay.

Need for Speed is the most successful racing video game series in the world, and one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. As of October 2009, over 140 million copies of games in the Need for Speed series have been sold.

My input:

I haven't played all of the "Need for Speed" games but some of the games in NFS series are very, very awesome.
When I got my first ever gaming console - PS1, NFS3 quickly became the game of my life at the time. It had cool and fitting soundtracks, easy driving and great maps and cool cars. I have been playing it for a very long time.

"Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed" wasn't as amusing, it only concentrated on Porsche models and the whole gaming was lame.
Next came Underground and Underground 2. First one was great when it came out, second one was even better. And I still crave to play it because it was that awesome. As I remember it's the only NFS game that would allow you to fully tune your car, and I mean neons, nitrous color, speakers in your trunk, that kind of stuff. Storyline was also great, map was huge and I really liked the free roam mode. NFS just didn't get better than this...

Later on they released "Most wanted", "Carbon", "Pro Street", "Undercover". While the games were amusing and didn't steer of course from illegal driving that we all loved, they managed to ruin most of the fun with "Pro Street" being strictly legal and only racing on the track. Though "Most Wanted" was my second most memorable game with also a great storyline, cool sound effects, great handling, plenty of cars but it was missing some of the car modifications as with Underground 2. "Carbon" didn't have anything that "Most wanted" didn't, although they introduced a new game mode called "Drifting" where you would race drifting down a hill. That was what set "Carbon" apart from "most wanted". "Undercover" was ridiculous, and I can't remember what specifically was ridiculous about it, but I know I didn't like it very much and was happy when I finished the campaign, finally...

"Shift", "World", "Hot pursuit" were such disappointments that I didn't even bother playing them for more than an hour. Got nothing much to say.
On "The Run" they finally made some progress towards being cool again. While the story was a bit corny, the gameplay was great.
Then the new "most wanted" was also such a heap of shit...

Ok, I'm done. Anyone else have any input?

I cant say i enjoyed the story in any of them, though i did like some of the early ones simply for the fun. Still it became too cookie cutter far to fast, and the later ones simply enrage me to no end. Im sorry but why is it that if im racing with 4 other people the cop cars ONLY go for me. oh we will send 80 cop cars after you, they will hit and screw with ONLY you, oh sorry did we cost you that race again? and again, and again and again and again. ok you know what fuck this game....:P yeah needless to say i dont look forward to these games any more, not for a long time.

Riders on The Storm - Snoop Dog ft. The Doors
YES, YES, FUCK YES!!
That song was the best damn thing in Underground 2. I felt like a baws cruising the city with this song.
Oh god... the memories... I must play it again! I MUST! but my laptop is too slow :/

I cant say...

...for a long time.
Hi,
You sound like a moron who got but hurt by loosing over and over agin and doesn't want to try anymore.
Sorry for that, I hate it when someone judges something like that. So what if you loose you are getting closer to victory every time. Right? Right. Keep trying,
I find it fun having 80+ stupid  mindless AI cops running after me (it's easy to track action patterns of stupid bots), I sometimes use trainers to jump to heat level 20. Remember, The challenging wins are always much more fun than the easy wins.
Anyways, if yo think nfs is hard, then dont go near games like "SPLIT/SECOND". Battle racing game.

You seem to misunderstand the point, my issue was not being chased by cops, even 500 of them. but that they ignore the other cars. Let me put it this way you and a accomplice go rob a bank, the place gets surrounded by cops, you decide to shoot your way out. As you and your partner in crime are shooting the cops shoot/arrest you, and just let him go. believable? no. My issues with the game were its AI, and its cookie cutter play. I dont care if a game is challenging, hell i prefer them. I dont however think a game that makes it more luck based than skill based to win is worthy of praise. I entered/played my first game at a Pro level when i was 14/15 years old(TFC). High skill situations dont bother me, i love them. At the same time i dont find it "fun" to play against a server full of aimbotters. It is no longer skill based on getting a kill, but luck. Being proud of being "lucky" is for the unskilled. I dont mind a luck element in a game(such as poker) but a game that is almost entirely about it, like the later NFS titles, or say slot machines i do not gain enjoyment from.

Split/Second was fucking easy, dude.

Burnout Paradise, on the other hand, where there are no closed tracks and every race takes place in the entire open game world where you have to figure out the routes yourself... that was hard. And very refreshing.
