The series released its first title, The Need for Speed in 1994. Initially, Need for Speed was exclusive to the fifth generation video game consoles, eventually featuring in all seventh generation consoles by 2008. The titles consist of racing with different cars on various tracks, with some titles including police pursuits in races. Since Need for Speed: Underground, the series has integrated car body customization into gameplay.
Need for Speed is the most successful racing video game series in the world, and one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. As of October 2009, over 140 million copies of games in the Need for Speed series have been sold.

I haven't played all of the "Need for Speed" games but some of the games in NFS series are very, very awesome.
When I got my first ever gaming console - PS1, NFS3 quickly became the game of my life at the time. It had cool and fitting soundtracks, easy driving and great maps and cool cars. I have been playing it for a very long time.
"Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed" wasn't as amusing, it only concentrated on Porsche models and the whole gaming was lame.
Next came Underground and Underground 2. First one was great when it came out, second one was even better. And I still crave to play it because it was that awesome. As I remember it's the only NFS game that would allow you to fully tune your car, and I mean neons, nitrous color, speakers in your trunk, that kind of stuff. Storyline was also great, map was huge and I really liked the free roam mode. NFS just didn't get better than this...
Later on they released "Most wanted", "Carbon", "Pro Street", "Undercover". While the games were amusing and didn't steer of course from illegal driving that we all loved, they managed to ruin most of the fun with "Pro Street" being strictly legal and only racing on the track. Though "Most Wanted" was my second most memorable game with also a great storyline, cool sound effects, great handling, plenty of cars but it was missing some of the car modifications as with Underground 2. "Carbon" didn't have anything that "Most wanted" didn't, although they introduced a new game mode called "Drifting" where you would race drifting down a hill. That was what set "Carbon" apart from "most wanted". "Undercover" was ridiculous, and I can't remember what specifically was ridiculous about it, but I know I didn't like it very much and was happy when I finished the campaign, finally...
"Shift", "World", "Hot pursuit" were such disappointments that I didn't even bother playing them for more than an hour. Got nothing much to say.
On "The Run" they finally made some progress towards being cool again. While the story was a bit corny, the gameplay was great.
Then the new "most wanted" was also such a heap of shit...
Ok, I'm done. Anyone else have any input?
