Scibuntu 0.4-beta - A brand new Scibuntu

This is Scibuntu, Ubuntu Linux for scientists and science students. Scibuntu is a script that adds scientific programs and other convenient tools to the plain desktop Ubuntu.

Scibuntu 0.4-beta includes a graphical chooser where you can choose between lots of programs for differens scientific areas. The new version adds lots of more programs than the former versions and is a almost complete rewrite of the code. With this version we also welcome scientists and science student to join the Scibuntu community.

  • Math and statistics tools
  • Plotting tools
  • Physics tools

Yeah ? try to post the description in the link and see if it shows or not, I had to send a message to Factionwars about this. I thought the forum is having a problem . so be thankful to see a link and a picture (that I added later  :P )

well I tried many times copying it and every time i post it it doesn't show up .  Maybe you have a magic stick or something  :P

Had to paste it into notepad and then reformat it manually. Guess the wusiwug editor couldn't "translate" it into bbcode.

so it's just a bash script that will apt-get a bunch of programs?

I would say to only install software you need on your box, instead of downloading a bunch of programs you'll never even touch. For example I do not need a FORTRAN 77 compiler on my system. Although if I wrote in fortran, scilab, or made documents in TeX.. I would download those programs when I need them.

If you want open source science GUI software, may I recommend you open "Ubuntu Software Center" and browse the "Science & Engineering" section.
