Anonymous posts leading to possible harm
« on: May 01, 2014, 09:55:39 PM »
I know someone who has been posted about on a website and since you may post anonymously they do not know who it is but threats and such are now being aimed at this person's family member including infants and such. I know this happens all the time but if I could someone trace the IP if that's possible maybe I could get this to stop? Any help is much appreciated.

A. Is this threat serious (can it be carried out)
If not don't worry about it

B. Not unless you have admin and they have it set up to log the IP on posts AND they aren't using a proxy or something. Though you could also sniff the traffic i guess but that will just tell you who connects not who did what.

C. You would then have to either: A. Dox the person/'s, B. Hack them (not recommended)
If you Dox them then you would have to send them that info and basically counter threat.

Sorry to hear this, pretty stupid question to be honest and not sure i believe you but whatever im just procrastinating from doing homework xD

Report it to the police, don't be stupid trying to "trace and hack".

Well, given the situation I highly doubt he's posting from anything that could be linked to him. A random name from a random email, if that's even necessary. Would be extremely hard to dox even if you knew what you were doing and you clearly don't so..

Besides. What are you going to do if you managed to get their IP? I'd be willing to bet that the next thing you would do is create another thread and ask us how to h4x his computer.
