Game modding?
« on: February 13, 2014, 09:50:20 PM »
I totally have always wondered how game mods are made, like whether you access some form of API or anything. My kind request i for someone to give a brief writing about how it is done. Just enough to tickle my curiosity.

Depends on the game ofc. But some games have a kind of modding "suite" available (like the CreationKit for Skyrim). If they have not, you usally replace stuff (like models).

You can't really give a good answer how to mod a game in general, it always depends on the game...

Are you looking for computer game modding, android game modding, console game modding?

There are some various tools to look into for example cheatengine for pc can create cheat tables for games for mods, there are also similar tools for android phones. But do you want packaged cheats that are installed? Addons? Mobile? Desktop? Flash? Etc?

As flowjob said there are kits available. With stationary games (not flash) you can use cheat tables. Another option is reverse engineering. You want to manipulate the data. Skins and stuff should be as simple as chsnging files. Install a game, check out the directory. ini files could be a good start for basic changes
