Win7 Doesn't sleep or hibernate

A while ago I had some problems with my Win 7 OS, Since I solved this problem the system doesn't sleep when I leave my PC on. That is if I leave my PC on for unlimited time, the system doesn't go to sleep and the screen stays on all the time. When I click on start and go to the options when you can log of or restart, the options for sleep and hibernate are unclickable?

I'm on a laptop so things are a bit different for me...

But try going to Control Panel > System and Security > and see if theres a Power Options section. If so, you should be able to mess with it there. If not, let me know :)

What were the problems that you solved? Does it have to do with LAN issues by chance?

This really sounds like a configuration issue. Check your power saving settings. For hibernation you have to enable it manually anyway and to hibernate manually you need to press SHIFT when at the Shutdown screen.

maybe it's turned off in the registry

path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power
name: HibernateEnabled
base: hexadecimal
value: 1 (to enable it)

check out this for a few different ways to enable/disable hibernate...

I have Linux and Win7 installed on my laptop, at the beginning I was always using Linux. So one day I decided to check on windows, when I booted windows I got a message saying there is something with the file system or something like this. I don't quite remember the details? Anyway I followed the windows repair tool instructions and the problem was solved after rebooting the system twice.

Everything in the configurations are ok, I even made the screen to go off after one minute which is the minimum and I waited for nothing?  :(

Wait, so is this problem still not resolved? If not, you could always go to your manufacturers website and make sure all your chipset drivers are up to date and redownload if necessary.

Perhaps set your computer to clean boot to make sure no services are running in the background to prevent this from happening?

To do this type msconfig in the start menu. Then, in the general tab choose Selective Start-up. Once there check the box to clear the Load Startup items. Then go to the services tab and Hide all Microsoft Services check box and Disable All. Then restart when prompted.

Hopefully this helps. I am in Arch right now and usually never use Windows so I could be wrong.

I did as you told me, after restarting the system I changed the time for the display to turn off to 1 minute and nothing happened? I then changed the parameters for (Sleep,Hibernate,Turn off HDD and Turn off display) to 1 minute and nothing happened?

The Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box is already checked? The other option "Wake on LAN" seems irrelevant to my problem.

Next question, is it not hibernating while you have something running? Or just not at all. Period? Cause the other day I had problems getting my screen to go black while in the middle of a dowbload even though I set the time to 1 min and it had always worked before. I went to bed though, woke up and the screen was off.

You might try to setting it to other time options, rebooting, and seeing that works at least. Makes sense as a next step to me...

Also, do you have CCleaner by chance? I'm almost sure this wouldn't help in this situation but perhaps you have some unused registry keys that are keeping processes running...

Also, if you haven't, I highly suggest that you update all drivers related to this issue.

That Power4Gear thingie you use looks like third-party software. If so, try to disable/uninstall it and use windows options instead.

I had this problem with a desktop computer, and the "Wake on LAN" option that you said seems irrelevant was the cause, along with some third-party software that uses the internet. I was a major n00b when mom had to fix it for me, so I don't remember exactly what to do, but I do know that it's not your computer that's staying awake, it's the internet keeping it awake.
