Turn your old Router into a Repeater

MY THOUGHTS:
Well a friend of mine lives out in the boonies and he was having trouble borrowing his neighbors open wifi network to murk on mw3. I was starting to get a little crazy and was about to get an omnidirectional antenna and wire it to the ps3, idk I was gonna do it. But then I started thinking and I remember seeing something on lifehacker so I looked it up. Found the page above and I asked him if he had a router. He just so happened to have a dd-wrt compatible router (Linksys WRT54G2v1) So I was like ok, let get hacking. I flashed dd-wrt on his router set it up as a repeater and then boom ps3 is online with a good signal.

NOTE:
This also will degrade the quality of the line so expect slower speeds if you are going to be doing this!

I'm not going to copy/paste the tutorial, just read it, they even give directions on how to flash dd-wrt on your router!

i have 8 computers in my room, and only 2 are wireless (not including laptops). i have a couple of ethernet switches lying around.. if i can find another old router of my moms i'll probably do this and LAN a switch to the router so all my computers can have internet :3

I've seen some cool things done with dd-wrt and openwrt. Routers are a great platform for robotics.

There really isn't a reason to do it here at my house, but my uncle down in Virginia, this would come in handy for his garden and gazebo/bar/grill in the wetlands behind his house.

Yeah I have no reason to do it but it was fun to do and pretty cool how it works. My router (old school wrt54gs v7) has dd-wrt running on it, however I just have it set up as a router. But it reaches everywhere... But yes, a garage, outhouse, etc. would be nice to get wifi ;)
