This is what I did today because we didn't have a powerful or recent enough machine to run VMWare ESXi Server 5.0.0.
I was quite happy, because for one, I managed to install ESXi to live boot and run from a USB drive (unsupported), but I also managed to get it to run without issue inside a VirtualBox environment. Another thing which supposedly shouldn't work.
Here was the setup.
