Answer this about backtrack 5 ?
« on: May 09, 2012, 11:13:44 PM »
Really pissed off by this here is it
i've 80 gb hard disk space
20 gb of partitions (4 paritions )
c:\ has windows 7 installed in it and has 1.96 gb's of free space .
I was thinking about installing backtrack so i used unetbootin to burn/extract the .iso file of backtrack 5 r2 gnome on usb(which is kingston 16gb)
Now when the extraction finished it asked me to restart , i restarted my computer  , went to the boot menu and selected to load from usb ; and it worked fine , got in the terminal typed in STARTX and got to the GUI , But still the desktop had the icon saying INSTALL BACKTRACK , i mean WHY ?I already had it on USB then what was that Install icon for ? i ignored it and started booting on windows 7 , now days later i tried to boot again from Usb . it went good to the gui point then gave me an error of some disk space , then the second time i boot it from the usb it didn't went to the GUI part , instead gave error on the console/terminal saying MOUNTING FAILED , no space or stuff , why the hell is this happening to me ? i still have 8gb+ left on the usb .
Another question can i run it perfectly by booting everytime from the usb or do i have to do something using that INSTALL BACKTRACK icon on dekstop ? PLEASE HELP , really worried what to do :(

Did you try to reinstall backtrack?
That icon the desktop is to install backtrack to the hard-drive. Don't open it unless you want to install backtrack to your hdd.

Is it necessary to install it to the HDD ? I mean cant i just use it everytime booting through the USB stick ? Will it make any difference , i mean will i be able to save changes and do all the stuff through USB ? cause i really don't wanna install it on HDD , its pretty complicated that partition extending method , dont wanna lose no data .

I had hard time understanding what you mean.. Reading it for few times now..
Can you explain what do you want to do? i.e. where do you want to install it?

Cause: You downloaded live version of it and burned it on USB, of course there is an install option.. Launching that icon gonna install BT on some of your partitions.. Is that what you want? To install it on your HDD and not on your USB?

Everything further would be just guessing what are you trying to accomplish.. So, again, tell me what's your point and I'll (try to) help you :)

You can use it just fine on your usb. For me I had to use LiLi USB creator. You mount the ISO file on your usb and create it with persistence. I have 4gb persistence on mine but you can do whatever you want. As they have said the Install Backtrack icon is to install it on one of your computer's partitions. So when you start the computer after creating the live usb you go to your BIOS menu(for me it's F2 for you it could be delete) Then you select to boot from your USB. If it is giving you an error you probably installed it wrong. Try again.
