Computer won't start
« on: November 02, 2012, 02:04:44 PM »
I woke up this morning and the computer was frozen so I unplugged it. I plugged it back up and the fan comes on but the computer doesn't seem to start. The fan is kinda loud too. I'm not sure how to even diagnose this problem. I disconnected everything and just have the power and the monitor plugged in bit it still won't start. Any suggestions? I have a computer that is the exact same kind as mine that I am going to use for parts but I'm not sure what is wrong.

It sounds like failed power supply unit (PSU). Did you move your rams before the problem.

Is this a laptop ?

It is a desktop but I got it, ram slot 2 went out for some reason. So I moved the ram from the second slot to the 4th slot and now it is working fine.

Don't mean to bump a locked thread, but for future readers and all:

You should check RAM first with boot problems. From my experience bad RAM or RAM slots are the cause of around 68% of boot related issues I have seen.
