Elementary OS
« on: January 15, 2014, 10:08:31 AM »
After the dissatisfactory more limited eOS Jupiter based from Ubuntu 10.10, the Elementary team released a more free and custom eOS Luna from Ubuntu 12.04. eOS Luna is one of my favorite Linux distros, not that it is anything powerful (in comparison to something you might find in a KDE or Gnome) but the design and visually customized aesthetics by the Elementary team were very satisfactory. Using their custom pantheon shell made eOS 'flow' with very intriguing look. Even though their custom apps and window managements were very identical to OS10 they added to the elegant feel of the OS. It is a great switch to Linux from an Apple OS.

The next eOS to be released by the Elementary team is Isis based on Ubuntu 14.04. They switched from Xembed to Gmodule, which seems to be their next step in the direction they have made apparent. Increasing the visual experience adding simple animations that to me make any eOS standout in its own way.

I can see the Elementary team become a nice improvement to the Linux community. It's something to look into if you are growing tired by the 'feel' of Ubuntu or are looking for a switch to Linux.

Any feedback on eOS Luna or upcoming Isis?

P.S. sorry if that was a bit eOS fanboy i just feel like it could be beneficial to someone :P

I read about this somewhere, to me it seems like a wannabe OS X, simply too similar. Anyway, they advertise with great speed even though I've heard the exact opposite from users of it. Personally, I don't know what to think about it. Will I give it a go? Probably not.

Its more like a wannabe Lubuntu. The reason why i appreciate eOS Luna is mainly the Elementary team. They seem to put alot of work into tailoring their OS to make it a very simple, lightweight system that doesn't require too much effort to customize yourself. I enjoy it more than OSx, maybe not more than Ubuntu. I do like the new animations with Gmodule. It's just an interesting lazy mans OS. If you have a free hour it doesnt take long to peek at.
