Hacking and Security / Re: Hacking Printer to Print only Black

Thank you 0E 800. Though, I started out my post with 'sometimes' so that OP didn't immediately try my semi-difficult to replicate recommendation without first reading more replies. I just thought it would be more productive to post something that might work rather than decide not to post anything at all because it sounds far-fetched.

@proxx I said i couldn't find the original link. This is as close to my claim as I could find in 5 minutes of searching. Call bullshit if you want, but I assure you that I did not fabricate a lie to answer that question.

General discussion / Re: Ideas on "What to do first"
« on: July 07, 2015, 02:59:11 AM »
Cracking APs is a good place to start with hacking. Start with WEP before you try WPA/2. Attacking WPA is much more complicated and requires more steps than WEP. However, you must first learn about the different parts of wireless networking such as authentication, encryption, and the transfer of traffic to be effective at anything related to hacking. To start with hacking, you might want to download vmware and test various operating systems(LINUX). You might also want to look into Network Security Monitoring to help you with capturing data.

Sometimes vulnerability scanners such as nessus will cause printers to print black pages until it runs out of ink or paper.

Wait what exactly do you need help with? Forcing a printer to create completely black pages?

I have always found mega.co.nz to be a fairly shady site.

lol they were selling to Sudan, Bahrain, and other such embargoed countries. One employee, Christian Pozzi, claimed that it's all fraudulent and that the torrent has a 'virus' in it. This company is pretty fucking sad

It sounds like you have a few opportunities to choose from, and InfoSec is a great field with many well paying jobs. I don't think you should take a job that you're less than satisfied with, even if it pays very well. If most people you know have 15 years of experience and you have 5 years, it could be harder for you to find an employer(I don't mean that negatively). As long as you are making a comfortable living, you should probably go with the job you love more. Also, you said that your area of expertise is obsolete, but still relevant. This might work against you in the future if you choose this route, as you might be out of a job, and out of knowledge if you focus too heavily on this subject. Though, you did say you could probably do this for the rest of your life. I guess just don't rely too heavily on one option.

Hacking and Security / GPS Spoofing

Interesting paper about advanced GPS spoofing attacks. Just something to think about as most developed countries' infrastructure heavily relies on the successful use of civilian and military GPS systems. The number of possible uses of this type of attack are endless.

Anonymity and Privacy / Re: Anonymous Maximus - What would you do?
« on: July 01, 2015, 07:05:02 PM »
Your anonymity level is mostly determined by how closely you are being watched(assuming you have made no previous fuck-up). If the govt wants someone in particular they will probably find him no matter how badass he is. Being anonymous also involves keeping your shit low-profile.

The ISP can always snoop your traffic(unless you use VPN or tor). This situation is a matter of forced firmware updates to the router.

Anytime you use a router supplied by an ISP(they're free for this reason), the backdoor is enabled and unavoidable.
