Visual Studio on Windows.
Nano on Linux.

And if you use some derpy OS no one has ever heard of, use the default text editor I guess.
Visual studio is an IDE and nano is a text editor, and they are very different.
if you decided to use an CLI text editor I would prefer vim because of it's costumization options and plugins but if you want an IDE in linux you should go for CODE:BLOCKS or something...

Operating System / Re: make awesome kali linux desktop with conky
« on: April 17, 2015, 06:14:38 PM »
Why using Kali when you can install what you prefer on clean distro and not getting all the unnecessary crap?
Conky is pretty nice but I don't use it because I'm using a tiled WM.

Beginner's Corner / Re: Learning C or Python
« on: April 17, 2015, 04:19:43 PM »
Amm, while Python is an easy and quick language, you can't get into low stuff(viruses usally do need low lv stuff) and it's pretty different than other programming languages. On the other sude, C is a very basic language and most of the modern computer languages are based on C.
If you'll choose learning C first you will learn a lot about memory management and it will be easy to learn other languages.

If you want a ease and quick programming language, choose python- GREAT language but you can't make big projects with it.
If you want to learn more about how the computer works choose C.

I know them both, and if you have time I recommend you to learn both, first C and then Python.

Good luck :)

What OS you use?
This is my opinion- use a text writer (I use VIM) and a compiler (let's say, GCC), Of course I'm using linux but if you use windows you can use Notepad++ or something.
In addition to that you got IDE's like code:blocks and such.

good luck :)

Hacking and Security / Re: How do you practise hacking?
« on: April 16, 2015, 02:55:25 PM »
I have a feeling you are going to have a very bad time with questions like such. Anyway, I'm not a hacker myself i.e penetration testing, and all that isn't my business. But all that I would suggest you if you want to 'practice'  penetration testing is setting up a sandbox. An environment where nobody gets hurt. Say two or more computers on a LAN with different operating system, that is for penetration testing or whatever they call it.
For practicing your web hacking like Cross site scripting/ SQL injections, install an apache server(Wamp I would recommend). Write an insecure website on your own and try exploiting it, then when you successfully do it, secure it and try exploiting again, and so on. Later on you can practice your skills on other 'local' websites , like that of some state agents or school websites. It will be fun.
This is such an example site, of a  school where I had studied in the past.
bck.edu.pk
I had a friend help me with it( he was a skiddy but knew his tools well) and we uploaded a shell(that he said he had written which he clearly hadn't) and changed the Prinicipal's picture to Sasha Grey's. It was hysterical, and we did it when at the end of sessions when they were opening admissions and people were unintentionally DDosing their website for contact information.
Anyway, goodluck.

Great comment, I recommed the methods he wrote about.
In addition to that, you got sites like hackthissite and picoctf that tests your knowledge and teaches you :)
goodluck!
