C - C++ / Re: What makes C so great?
« on: July 10, 2011, 11:40:11 PM »
Right here in our own forum lol, we have C and C++ code :)

but if you want more specific sites then:

http://www.cprogramming.com/

http://www.cplusplus.com/

http://www.cpp4u.com/

these are all pretty good general sites to start with, most good programming sites have sections for both C and C++. I also have a couple e-books if you want me to post them on here ;)

I think C and C-like languages are good to learn if for no other reason than the fact that they are REALLY common languages for all kinds of needs, and because of this there is a wealth of code, and documentation, and other resources available. I started with C, didn't learn much, then took courses in C++ and now its my language of choice. So it's really about finding what you're comfortable with and what meets your needs and expectations. But if you like OOP, I suggest C++ over C, just my opinion.

Use the language that you love, and everything always works out for the best :)

General discussion / Re: archives are forbidden

good, cuz i really hate specific reasons...

one time an achondroplasic anacronistic Napoleon Bonaparte gave my dog acute testicular torsion with an Arby's straw, and when I asked him why, he looked me straight in the face and said "I had a specific reason...", then he grabbed my PSP and ran into the time vortex with Jeff Bridges...

...it was a very sad day...

Just curious, but is there a specific reason they are locked?

General discussion / Re: Linux Wireless card
« on: July 09, 2011, 08:27:58 PM »
I believe ubuntu tries to install restricted drivers for you at startup, but there should also be a menu option that can search for them again(something like System->Hardware drivers)

To determine what wireless card/chipset you have, open up a terminal and type the following.

lspci -v | less

this is a link to the supported Linksys cards
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardwareSupportComponentsWirelessNetworkCardsLinksys

Ubuntu has pretty good wlan card support now but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and install the drivers from the manufacturers site(if linux is supported).

sorry I'm not more helpful but I would recommend you post this on Ubuntus' forums, they can offer much more than my slacker azz can :)

Found it on the Webs / Re: Medical breaktrough, the skin gun.

Honestly, wtf, who has 5 of July parties? Well I guess all the fireworks stores were closed so they just built a bonfire and threw gasoline on it... then again... I'd be an idiot not to anticipate such behavior from Pennsylvanian policemen :D

awesome find btw, now I can play with fire with the reassurance I've always wanted
