I fail so bad at strategic board games because shitty attention makes me miss really freakin' obvious things and I over think what I do see.
But all this enthusiasm is making me intrigued - maybe I'll go check  it out (no pun intended). By any chance, does Go=Shougi? I don't remember...

There's Damm Vulnerable Web App, there's hackthissite.net, there's overthewire and vulnhub and like a thousand diff sites and apps. I'd post a link to ctf's official list of wargaming sites meant for training (small compendium of good links) but I'm too lazy to post it for you.
Seriously, did you even google "hacking practice"?
Aaanyways the best for a newb would be HTS or OTW. Vulnhub's boxes are nice too - try them after you can't get any farther in HTS or whatever.

I think you should give her a serious talk before you got rating her phone. Kids appreciate honesty rather then snooping, Learned that from Dr. Phil. My main man.
Dude. Don't. Necro. Dafuq.

All the confidential information that proves they're mad fucks? Disclose it to the public and you've got an uprising. A very bad one.
Two case scenarios:
A) The people win and we have a chance to start anew (which could have several outcomes on it's own)
B)People lose. This will probably result in a lot of bloodshed and/or extreme poverty which will end up speeding up the process like you said.
I could go on, but I wanna see what other people have to say first.

Here's a tip, familiarize yourself with the sh mod in python. Sure you've for the os mod that can already do a lot of the things the sh mod can but I've found it extremly useful so far.
Sticky, anyone?

@Matriplex - more people fiddle with python and bash than with java. It's only natural.

Dunno if these help but I love this kind of stuff.
How dare you leave out Snow Crash.
@OP- Does it have to be Sci-Fi or can it be in the general low-level Fantasy/Dystopia genre?

So you basically live in airstrip one ?
Can we take a moment to appreciate this reference? I love this book.
...Okay, besides that, the UK seems to have some pretty harsh laws about carrying weapons around. Idr exactly, but it *should* be possible under certain circumstances. Although I think they were weird ass circumstances my mind isn't working right now.
@OP - I spent 2 years training with a gun just to be told it's illegal to own one and not be a part of the police/military (but classes are okay?), so I really envy y'all right now. Anyways, sounds great though. :D

Sorry, the only experience I had was playing with These bad boys in school.

I truly hope someone else has more luck than me, I'm also curious on robots, drones would be really cool to play around with.

I've heard that just about every last beginner out there starts off with a model of these.
Drones would be f@&#ing awesome, I agree. :D

Yeah I heard about this too. I love this. Thanks for the share anyways.

Beginner's Corner / Re: The best vulnerability scanner!
« on: January 29, 2015, 02:56:10 PM »
Ok... So, I need to learn how to find vulnerabilities manually and then ban "vuln scanner" out of my dictionaty, right?
No man, just learn. Even the best of us scan at times, but know how to detect them manually at first. Delete "using a tool cause it werks" out of your vocab, kay?
Learn because some of these scanners don't tell you all the details and with some more advanced exploits, you might need them. Buuut, by then you should be able to script your own shit.

Perfect! *Banning "vulnerability scanner" out of my dictionary*
No wtf don't do that. Just try to learn things first and once you've checked for something so many times manually you can't stand it anymore use a vuln scanner. That doesn't mean you should stop completely - just not now.

I agree with d!amond. If it's hacking you wanna learn, check for SQL or OS vulnerabilities yourself (for example)
However, if you want to become a skid, be my guest. Also, what are these said "results"? And also, do you realize there are different types of scanners? Details would be nice.

Can someone just please lock this already? I think the question has been answered sufficiently by now.
