How do I permanently install backtrack on an usb drive? I know I can do persistent install, but I want for backtrack to treat the usb as a hdd. Also, whenever I reboot a backtrack installation with persistent storage, it throws errors and I cannot start the gui.
Thanks

Sorry if I'm being dumb but I'm not sure what you are asking. What's the difference between installing it with persistence and installing it permanently on your usb?

Well, for one, I keep getting an error on a reboot when I have persistence. And secondly, the "Install BackTrack" icon on the desktop pisses me off.

What's the error? What did you use to create it with persistence? AfAIK the only thing that works is LinuxLive USB Creator.

Its alot of errors. But I cannot post them since I formatted the usb drive. And I used this http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/) as suggested by ubuntu.com and I also tried Unetbootin. I'll try Linux Live USB creator

Yeah I've never been able to create a persistent Backtrack install with either of those two. As for making the icon go away I'm not sure if it gets any better than persistence..
If it's possible, I think you're going to find out how here:

Ok, well thanks. I'll try it.
Also, that has an extremely sexy gui.

Anndddddd. It doesn't work. It will boot every time, but persistent storage doesnt work. I have tried 2 times.
-
Hmm, was this before or after you told me it worked on IRC
-
I thought it worked because it didnt throw an error the 2nd boot. But it didn't.
-
It's too bad you can't post the errors..
-
I'm not getting any errors this time. My settings and files are just not being saved.

i dont think that would be a good idea. if you do that you'll have a very good chance overusing your usb. a usb has a limited number of writes and rewrites before it goes bad. its best to stick with HDD.

You are right it wont be the first USB stick I raped this way.
However it can be installed permanently by just selecting the USB drive as intallation drive.

Really all you need is http://www.linuxliveusb.com/
I used that one as suggested somewhere on the forums for persistent storage and it worked.
