some cookies dossent expire until you hitt the logout button
i acctually downloaded about 20 files in a short time this way

Cookies aren't controlled by session. They are simple texts..
when we hit logout the cookie has its info erased.
Alternatively, cookies may store timeouts or some session id and when the site connects it verifies it and erased the cookie accordingly.
