so i have to build a computer for videoediting and 3d modeling as a school project.
I am no expert in hardware therefor iam asking what you guys think about this build
the budget is 18000 sek thats somthing like 2700 usd
Intel® Core i7-3770K Processor (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=660225)
ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3, Socket-1155 (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=650757)
Crucial DDR3 BallistiX Elite 16GB KIT (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=752803)
Noctua NT-H1 Kylpasta (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=460665)
XFX Radeon HD 7850 2GB GDDR5 (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=756496)
OCZ SSD Agility 3 Series 2.5" 480GB (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=660516)
Cooler Master GX Lite 600W PSU (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=745087)
TP-LINK TL-WN851N 11n Wireless Adapter (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=617281)
Samsung DVD±RW Writer, SH-222BB (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=660432)
Patch Cable SFTP CAT6 Grey 10m (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=502907)
Akasa SATA3 Kabel 50 cm Right Angle (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=594477)
Koss headset CS100 stereophone (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=123344)
Logitech M500 Corded Mouse, (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=496211)
Cable PC m/jord 2m (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=100425)
Cable DVI M/M 2m (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=108966)
CM Storm Speed RX Medium Mouse Pad (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=761189)
i have money over so i was thinking that maby this would be a better choise for graphic card
EVGA GeForce GTX 680 4GB Classified CUDA (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=759273)
or is there something else that would need to be upgraded?
as i understand the most important part to build after is video editing..
so what you think?

That looks good. You have a way bigger budget than I did ($2700 for a school project is insane) but I returned my coolermaster because the fan that came with the CPU was fine.
I had to take mine off at one point because of a motherboard problem, and if you have to do that make sure you don't get the sticky stuff (thermal paste i think) on your skin. Lesson learned for me :D
Since budget isn't a problem for you then you probably made the right choice going for i7. Post pics when it's finished if you can I like to see beast computers.

i wish i could ^^
no this is only hypothetical no real computer will actually be built :(
the teacher wants to know why we have chosen the parts and that the comp will actually do the task.
later on we have to chose software, set up the network and stuff like that not as fun as it sounds. would be funnier to do it irl insted of on paper.
i did not chose a cpu fan other then the one comming with the cpu because this comp will not be overclocked :(
ps: i dont think its that of a big deal to get some paste on the fingers, reemoves pretty easy, but the agan it was actually some years ago i built a comp
-
Well apparently the person who told me it was dangerous was playing a prank on me. Maltese guy I know. Started shouting at me because i got a bit on my finger. At the least I think it's bad to ingest but that's it.
And I didn't know your PC was theoretical lol. Good to know I'm not the only one who can't build a $2.5k computer ;D I'm guessing you have to provide some kind of report including reasons for choosing each individual piece of hardware? I have a friend who does lots of video editing and 3d modelling I will ask him about this in more detail for you if you want.
But what I know - in terms of graphics cards - for these tasks is that it's best to go for nVidia, as a lot of 3d and rendering programs are optimized for Nvidia (you could maybe look into that). The nVidia Quadro is specialised for 3d stuff I believe.

hmm intresting will look into that. thanks mate :)

Well why don't you take a look at AMD cpu like Phenom 2 instead of i7, it cheaper while it provide a great performance.

the cpu is taken from this list
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html
its the cheapest high end cpu available atm

Hi relax, I am not so much into that hardware stuff but I think DangerousLIama is right about the graphic card.
The company I am working for has an engineering department. They are doing AutoCAD and Catia modelling the whole day. The last PC they ordered had the following configuration. I know they dont take any other graphic card then Nvidia Quadro. This Configuration is 2 years old and a bit outdated.
Fujitsu CELSIUS W480 Workstation
Top Up 3 Y. On-Site Support next business day
CELSIUS W480
1x E650 Core i5-650
4x 2GB DDR3-1333 ECC
1x NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800 1GB
2x Display Port/ DVI-D Adapter Cabel
1x DVI/VGA Adapter
1x DVD SuperMulti SATA
1x HDD SATA II 250GB 7.2k
1x Cabel for SATA-HDD
1x KB400 USB black D
Hope this helps

@OP do you have any more specifications on your theoretical task? For example: Would it go to be used in a company like RedBull's? Or is it for use at home or in a college or what? Or did they not say?
@Redbull I had a look round the internet, that build looks really nice but after adding stuff up it comes to around $3400 (by my calculations). If he were to copy that build, where do you suggest he cuts back? Unless he has $700 dollars left over from the build in the original post.
(On a sidenote RBA, very much liked your Networking guide. So much so that I've printed them off to go over next time I'm away from a computer. Cheers :D)
-
That old stuff still is that expensive? I think relax configuration is just fine and the only thing he should change is the graphic card to the Nvidia Quadro FX 3800. I guess it would fit into his budget.
btw. many thanks DangerousLIama. :)
-
the build i have (without the graphic card) goes for 10500 sek thats about 1590 usd that leavs me with 7500 sek witch is around 1135 usd for a graphic card. i sould be abel to get a quadro card for it...
The computers must be able to handle simple things like word processing, spreadsheet, billing and order processing, but also cope with more advanced things like 3D modeling to create models of future car models, imaging and video editing to process advertising materials, and manage their website.
all components must be bought on http://komplett.se
i did look at this
PNY Quadro® NVS 450 512MB DDR3 256-bit (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=434502)
but everything i know about graphic cards say that this one it actually minor to the one i chosebut then again i know nothing about quadro or why they are recomended for this kind of task.
acording tho this
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Quadro+NVS+450
the Quadro NVS 450 *** SUCKS *** :P
-
Thats true... the NVS 450 sucks. I think it needs to be at least a 4000 or 5000.
http://www.jigsaw3d.com/articles/choosing-the-right-graphics-card-for-your-3d-application
I think applications like AutoCad and Catia will work best with a Nvidia Quadro card. On a forum I found this:
you want the FX card option. NVS is for general office work. with no 3D capability
http://www.3dcadforums.com/autocad-forum/3929-graphic-card-performance.html?s=642b8b082aa6b2fdab7212fe9d0fa57e
And here is something from Nvidia
http://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro-catia.html
-
thanks for the links :)
unfortuntly komplett.se (http://komplett.se) diden't have to much to offer :(
they did however have
PNY Quadro® 2000D 1GB GDDR5 128-bit (http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=639025)
http://www3.pny.com/NVIDIA-Quadro-2000D-For-DVI-Displays-P2975C365.aspx (http://www3.pny.com/NVIDIA-Quadro-2000D-For-DVI-Displays-P2975C365.aspx)
it goes for 4399 sek | 666 usd (devil pricing)
NVIDIA have released the Quadro 2000 which is based on the same Fermi architecture as the 4000 and 5000 models, but with fewer CUDA cores.
ill think this is a good choise :)
still have 485usd over

That sounds good! Do you get extra points for money left over? Because there might be a few places you can upgrade some of the hardware.

no no extra points.
i am eager to here where :)

lol I'm not sure and I'm not going to try and navigate that website since I don't speak the language (and Google auto-translate doesn't work very well). The build you have is very good though. I guess having spare money is fine then.

so what you think?
Things you should include..
1-remove the 7850.. it is shit for that money! get two GTX-670 superclocked (two-way SLI)
2-get a psu that is GOLD CERTIFIED (cooler master or antec)... 1000W atleast(600 is way too less)
3- you need to add a HDD to your list.. for that get the Western digital Black Caviar 2TB
4-replace the cooler with H100 of corsair or the Noctua NH-DH14
5-Get a samsung blu-ray dvd writer..
6- you need a Full Tower case to accommodate these components! google it!
7-instead of crucial, you should get Corsair Vengeance

hmm
well we have talked about the graphic card and i think the quadro 2000D is the best in price range for 3d modeling. want to prove me wrong pls refer to some site i can look at.
i will check the psu might need a bitt stronger but dont think so. the only thing that will drain power is pretty mutch the graphic card. the ssd hdd uses less power then a ordanary sata. might be that i could use some extra disk space.
replace cooler do you mean the cpu cooler? the computer will not be overclocked so i think the one whith the box will do just fine.
blue-ray dvd writer will not be needed for the tasks the computer will be used for. if you think otherwise pls give me examples.
i will calculate and see if a full tower is really needed. i dont think it is. there is more airspace in a full but as long as the mid has fans i think ill be okey.
i will also check out the corsair ram.
thanks for your input
ps: keep in mind this will be a computer for a company to do some 3d modeling not a home gaming beast.

I am not here to prove you wrong so thats not the way to ask for an advice!
Secondly try using Google, am sure you'll find all the links and the answers there... however i'll explain some of my points...
1-2000Quadro is for the WORK STATIONS plz!! NOT FOR A SCHOOL PROJECT!
2-GTX-670 in SLI will suffice..
3-Does not matter the cpu is OC or not, its always best to have an after market cooler.. Secondly IVY BRIDGE processors are notorious for the heat they produce!
Matter of fact i'll advice u to get i7-2600k SANDY BRIDGE...
4-U definitely need a psu with higher wattage (and for Quality, GOLD CERTIFIED) because a low end card like gt-440 requires 300W... Here we are talking about GTX-670/Quadro... HIGH END CARDS!
Best of luck for your project!
