Does anyone know a proxy program (simple like ultrasurf) that has no gui?
-
Something like this:
http://www.w3.org/Daemon/User/Proxies/ProxyClients.html
-
not exactly. The scripts were linux shell commands but I want something for Windows.
Also the shown scripts use a sample proxy which does not actually exist.
I was about to write one but I can't get a socket to listen on port 8080 (the host doesn't let me).
so I was looking for a program, like Ultrasurf, just without any GUI.
Thanks for sharing.
well I guess this works:

STAFF EDIT
Maybe I didn't make it clear last time, simply edit your posts, DO NOT DOUBLE POST.

Oh ok, guess I didn't understand what you meant... You just want a proxy list.. Google does wonders

Sorry admin! won't be repeated...
the thing is that I didn't know there was a place called Proxy List! ;)
But meh, it didn't work anyways.
I'm not sure how Ultrasurf works. I thought it just finds a proxy, and changes IE proxy settings to connect to it. But I took one of those proxies in the proxy list and changed the settings myself, but IE didn't connect successfully. Ran Ultrasurf and it worked!
I wonder what I'm doing wrong...
do those proxies expire after a while? Because where I was testing I didn't have access to the proxy list page so I tested the ones I'd recorded yesterday...

It depends you need to find a good up proxy and configure it correctly. Should work just fine.
-
I googled but there are either proxy websites or the servers trying to make money off their proxy services. :(
1. Please post here if you know a good proxy server (IP:Port).
2. Is an IP:Port proxy (such as the ones listed here (http://www.hidemyass.com/proxy-list/)) the same as a VPN? If not what's their difference?
Thank you 8)

VPN's and Proxy's are different

Proxies on the list work just fine, just set your web browser up to connect to them
-
sorry for being a n00b!
yeah they work fine in the beginning, but after a couple of hours they stop working. Where I want to use the proxy, I don't have access to the proxy listing page.
I want something that is permanently up and running...
-
Then you'll have to buy your own. Proxy uptime is a completley different situation. Proxies go up and down.
-
so no free proxies... :(
I'm still kinda confused about the difference between proxy and vpn. These are the defs from wikipedia:
In computer networks, a proxy server is a server (a computer system or an application) that acts as an intermediary for requests from clientsseeking resources from other servers.
A virtual private network (VPN) is a technology for using the Internet or another intermediate network to connect computers to isolated remote computer networks that would otherwise be inaccessible.Based on this, is it correct to assume that I can use a VPN as a proxy but a proxy is NOT necessarily a VPN? If I set up a VPN at, say 98.127.69.220 port 9087, can I configure the proxy settings of my browser and use it as a proxy?

No you don't set proxy settings for a vpn you tunnel your connection through a VPN

Why not use something like SSH tunnel ?
Works like wonder.
:P

Yeah, I've had good, but limited, experiences with SSH tunnels so far. You don't need a GUI for at least some of these either.
