lol.. I use Windows XP. Soon I will be using Linux (probably start with sexy mistress ubuntu) when I will move to college. but it's a software Rainmeter that I use.. And the theme is Mass Effect.

It is an Arch box with fluxbox. Theme is ambientbox, I can't remember if I modified it or not.

Never heard about it. Looked at their website and seems similar.
Fluxbox is nice and simple. You can configure panels (my taskbar, for example) and the menu. You can also configure every key shortcut you could ever want. I was looking for a very lightweight window manager and after seeing some screenshots I chose flux.

Yeah as far as I know the only difference between the two is that the base install of openbox is a MB or two smaller than fluxbox....oh and the name.

Heres two diff backgrounds from my Debian VM. I downloaded a theme to set the windows darker, then the bottom terminal is running IRSSI with a custom theme which colors the chat. Background is one i found online. I downloaded a ton of diff stuff though and am planning on putting together a few different color schemes, next one will be green, then some reds perhaps. IDK, we'll see. I'll post them when I get them done :)

I am myself a cli junkie and I will swear by the terminal to this day (got to exercise it today with a new/old job schooling people), I would choose xchat over irssi any day. IRC is a prime example where GUI over-rides CLI . I've lived both and can see where Eric Raymond and other hackers are cumming from with the GUI forefront. Sometimes, simplicity overrides 1337ness. Don't get me wrong, I love irssi and what it brings to the table, but in my (jaded if you shall, eyes) I see something like xchat bringing more to the table than irssi.

Okay, I'm almost feeling like a fag here, just going to  say I MUCH MUCH RATHER prefer xchat over irssi, and yes I've used both. I loved feeling like an uber badass with irssi, but with hind sight, xchat is my choice.

Lol I disagree but it warms my cold heart to hear you say that. Thanks buddy  ;) . I just moved over from Xchat. I originally installed irssi on ubuntu and it didn't really work out well for me. (Ask Faction or Kulver). But, now I'm loving it, and I'm loving Daemon's setup. My current one is the xchat theme ironically enough but I'm not sure I love how it looks with everything else.

Lol i LOVE irssi, yea it's tough to get into but as long as your using screen it becomes easier. Then you write some perl scripts (or modify other people's :P ) and all your server connections and login info are made for you. Plus i LOVE how customizable it is, i liked hexchat at first but now i am an IRSSI guy and I don't see that changing anytime soon lol.

@lucid: that was the sux theme, I actually went and downloaded like 20 themes so no matter what I change my background too I'll have a theme that looks good on it :D
I also set my terminal almost 100% transparent, cause I prefer my desktop background to the terminal background. Then I created a bash script that opens 3 terminal screens that fill my desktop when I boot up my debian. More accurately, I made 3 scripts, one for each, as for some reason having all 3 in one script wasn't working for me. But it was my first experience with bash scripting, so I'll fine tune it another day :)

 Never did it but shouldn't  be hard. To get a conky bar across the screen you could just put all the stuff on one line and specify conky width to be like your screen width, and set the height to something like 20.

This thread has loads of top bar conky configs. Not what I am looking for, but might help you or others.

I've got dual Xeon processor's and 8 gigs of RAM and nothing has run so smooth or as fast as Arch or Crunchbang

Haha yea pretty much. And with over 4GB of RAM I have to have a fan for those too so it gets real loud

Lol currently that is gnome-terminal.
I dont like it for its mem hog.
However I have no favorite term for the moment.
I always used urxvt but I had some things that I didnt like about it.

Tis okay, I myself am still having problems with vbox..... It can say it has been narrowed down to vboxvideo though with the guest-addition shit. I had at least xorg working before at some point, and will persue to get it to work again. At which time Arch irc or something might be in order. Arch wont be installed on the main laptop until at least wednesday this week..... Blarg.....

Form HOME dir down is all formatted in green, and it shouldn't be. I have tried multiple alterations with no avail.... I removed HOME becuase everything is in / anyway. I plan on puting spectrum graphs in it as well instead of the bar graphs. Weather and IRC is coming next for le conky.

You need to simlink that most applications will probably be confused.

I'm currently running a W7/BT5R3 dual-boot on my laptop and plain-simple W7 installation on the desktop (gaming rig anyway).
The desktop is also Aero but because Teamviewer is crap my 120 Mbps bandwidth can't tolerate those pretty graphics...

Also I hate having to deal with different interfaces on my own devices, hence the consistency.

Gonna upload the actual relevant picture of the BT5R3 install after I get home (short-day wooo!)

After a bug with my nvidia card got fixed I'm finally back to arch, and after days of configuring and trying out different programs I'm now satisfied with my setup...

If you have some specific questions I might be able to help , been my only wm for over a year or so.
Indeed the fancy features can be a bit rough the first time.
For now you will be fine just editing the theme.lua.
And I hate lua :P

Awesome sucks because Lua. Awesome is awesome because everything else. Yeah I don't really have a problem with theme.lua. But once we start talking about awful and vicious and wibox and blah blah my head starts to spin just a little bit.

ArchBang cause the install is a bit quicker since I re-installed a few times trying to get the Windows partition working and was too lazy to move around partitions. I'm thinking about doing like Lucid and giving Slack a go. But probably wont anytime soon since I got a few things going here in Arch.

2. Slack is definitely worth the experience. It isn't prone to breaking like arch, the install is simple as fuck, and overall it's relatively easy without taking away from the "behind the scenes" like Ubuntu does. We might be drifting off a little but  I agree , I have archbang installed on some not important machine because I needed a quicky install.

I have windows on my desktop PC cause I want to play BF4 :( Mainly it is just the host for a lot of different virtual linux machines. Most of the time I am using one of my laptops and they all run linux. Its just more comfortable to lie in bed or on the sofa with the laptop instead of sitting on a desk in front of my PC.. lol

Thats conky showing all the temp readouts from my mainbord , its absolutely loaded with temp sensors.
Since this machine is overclocked it is a good thing to have these right on the screen.

I recently started to learn Arch, and I'm excited about Manjaro linux. The desktop is clean, and even comes with a cool custom conkyrc. I like Arch's tools for configuration(systemctl, netctl, etc.). Once you learn where everything is it's a breeze to use. I don't like making startup scripts for Arch, I still like Debian's format.

I couldn't do this one. If I can't read file names it's a no-go. I almost didn't even see the trash bin in the corner. But I don't like desktops anyway. I'll stick with openbox.

Arch Linux runing i3 Window manager.

Bottom right you have commandline music player cmus and left of that top (process manager). Other tools include  iftop & custom command to show network connections, etc.

lol!  you got me there, man.  i'm still dependent on my windoze 7 box... if it weren't for school i'd be more apt to scrap it.  BUT the *nix boxes in my house outnumber the windoze ones... that's gotta count for somethin.  ;)

hello

wanted to share my new desktop background

switched to arch linux and finally got a "final" version. I've put a lot of time in getting everything to work.

I'm a little bit proud on the conky theme. I copied it from the conky site but tweaked it to my config. There is no ingoing or outgoing traffic mentioned, because i disabled the internet connection before taking the screenshot. Better be safe with all those hackers here ;)

FYI: i like xfce, it was a good choice
