Post by: Wolf on July 18, 2012, 06:16:11 PM
Hey guys,
Its been a while... anyways, I'm trying to change my user name in back track with "usermod -l wolf root"
But it tells me I can't because root is logged in.... how do i fix?

Please dont change root username -.-

A lot of system services need "root" and they will stop working if you change roots username.

If your really eager, just make a new account and change its UID to that of the roots user, I think that should work :D

I don't even think you can change root to another name. Much easier to add a new user, then give it root privileges. Or give root privs to an existing user. But what's so wrong with using sudo to do root stuff?
