Title: laptop got stolen how can i get the address where its at?

well my laptop got stolen, I have what I think is the IP address could I trace it's physical location with the use of the IP address?

Of course if you didn't already have VNC and dyndns on your pc it won't help you much

The IP won't help much to recover your laptop. So I'll say you're screwed at this point.

One of my favorite defcon talks. As far as recovering your computer, it sounds to me like there is now way, but you really didn't give any information. I am assuming you don't have any sort of tracking software or anything like that installed already. My best guess would be to do like
the defcon guy did and check craigslist and such.

You DO have chances of recovering using your laptops ip, do a IP trace and there may be no ISP privacy protection.
Or go to a Hightech crime police corp and give the ip.

The chances of getting that back are pretty slim mate, sorry....Install this on your new laptop if u bye one...

I guess it depends on your local PD but even with an IP I doubt anything will happen. Sorry, I also think it might be time for a new laptop.

The IP address you have wrote down will not do you any good. More than likely you have the private address, and even if you had a public address than is completely subject to where you are. Unless you have a good idea as to who took it I would say you will need to buy another one.
