NodeZero is Ubuntu based linux designed as a complete system which can also be used for penetration testing. With NodeZero comes around 300 tools for penetration testing and set of basic services which are needed in penetration testing. Also we are preparing a repository of pentest tools so your system will be up to date at all time.

Didn't bother to memorize it since it could be something I'm doing wrong. I've tried installing Nodezero, Backbox, Backtrack 5, and Ubuntu 10.04 alongside Windows 7 but on a different HDD. My main problem is having only one monitor so every time I try to solve the issue I have to reboot into windows, delete all the partitions the failed install left, google for a while, and retry all over again.
Backbox installs but boots into CMOS Grub leaving me lost.
Nodezero gives me an install error half way through the installation.
Backtrack 5 is giving me the "fb: conflicting fb hw usage nouveaufb vs VESA VGA" then stays stuck there. (no clue how to fix the driver issue)
Ubuntu Natty just sucks.
I've installed Linux before but without Windows 7.

I suggest you try it first before using it as a primary OS alongside Windows?

I'd install Backtrack 5 permanently if I could. My primary focus is just learning as much as I can about Linux having it be security focused is even better.
If you could help explain how to fix the "fb hw usage" error than I'd be set.

It's a video card/driver issue.

That would be fine if I could only have access to a GUI but the problem is that i can't get the OS to boot. Selecting boot a method just takes me to a prompt where it freezes halfway through extraction and it's always that "fb: conflicting" error. None of the instructions state a form of entering the cmos where i can blacklist the driver. Also doesn't elaborate on how I can install the driver without access to the kernel. If anybody has found a solution to this I could really use step by step instructions.

From what I've read Backtrack is the most popular pentesting Linux distro. They have a solid community unlike Nodezero which seems to be at its beta stage, just speculating though.

Honestly, If you really just want to learn about linux, then any distro will be fine.
I'm sure some folks run backtrack as a primary OS, but it's not really designed to be a primary OS (IMHO).
What kind of video card are you using?

Not just that but it's supported by a larger community.

Nvidia GTX 550 Ti and I'm not using it as a primary OS, trying to install alongside Win7. As for you comment about any OS should do well yes I know it's just that it saves me the time of having to compile all those tools.
