Title: Evilzone Card Game
Post by: Zesh on June 27, 2011, 01:13:37 AM
Okay well I've decided what my new project will be.....Evilzone Card Game(I'm very bored at the moment :) ) Got any better names then do tell. The game will be eh...you have a deck of cards and some life points and you take on other players...yugioh :P

Here's how the field will look for a player:

Here's are card designs:

I'm thinking of having scripts run when certain program are running or on the field like to use a batch script you need CMD on the field.

Any ideas are welcomed and remember I'm doing this out of pure boredom :P I'll update this whenever :)

I like the third logo. Maybe have few designs and load them randomly at startup?
How about naming it: EvilCards :P
Make it rf -rf / the machine upon loosing :D

I would not make that a standard settings,
but maybe a Duel of Death option inwhich it happens :P?

anyway
I think you should make cards with type like Tools, Viruses, Trojan
you would fight with viruses Trojan, maybe also tools (depending on what they do)
tools could help virusses/trojans or retrieve things out of the recyclebin, lock certian things
Tools would be like the trap thing in Yu-gi-yo
Virusses and Trojans would be like monsters
I also think you should insert cards that set the enviroment as which would be resemble as OS, so XP, VISTA, Linux, etc etc etc

if you need any help
then please let me know :P

Cool idea Huntondoom :D
This game could have viruses for opponent players. You choose with who you want to play (let's say a worm) and play "against" it in a card game. If you loose that session, the worm gets released - of course you will have to pick simple yet destructive worms that could revert the damage after winning a rematch with that worm.

Or, you could have a difficulty level - Lame/Easy/Medium/Hard/Unrepairable, where in each category you would have an array of stuff to do with the computer depending on the difficulty to fix that problem. Let's say for Easy you could move all the icons from the desktop to a folder on the desktop - very annoying for those who have icons set up in some way :P or create shitloads of folders somewhere...
Medium could be disabling of the task manager...
Hard could be swapping the mouse buttons...
Unrepairable could be destruction of the partition table :D
Lame where you don't loose and computer stays unchanged...

This could be not only very annoying, but eye opening making you learn to fix the system, the hard way :D

Like Huntondoom said, if you need help with writing such tasks I'd gladly help when I have time :D

I rather have a game mode in which you computer doesn't get target
since you still have to learn this shit :P
and you dont always feel like cleaning up

Play the game when you feel like it :D
Win a rematch to repair the computer or repair it yourself :D might be a good idea to include a help option where you can repair shit with 1 click when you can't win the game or can't fix it.

You're assuming wrong :( try reading the comments again.
Game would be offline.

At first yes but if it gets popular then I'll could add multiplayer support.

Sweet all of these comments have motivated me :P Great ideas thanks. After some revision I'll work on this so expect updates.

Update Time - New field and card designs:

As you can see the colour of the card represents the card type. The 'Program' slots on the field are for virus, trojan, worms and other programs. The reason I've added Tools to the bottom 5 slots is because I will class AVs, firewalls as tools and not Programs....makes sense right? :P Also Programs can be attacked out right whilst Tools/Script have to be targeted with other attacks. The Environment slot will be for environment cards(duh) which will give some programs advantages or allow certain scripts to run. Thanks to Huntondoom for the ideas.

Ive decided on the name as EvilTCG although it probably will lack the 'T' part :P Work on the engine will soon start and any other ideas are welcomed ;D

Edit - I'd also like some name suggestions for the life points or HP of the player. I was thinking of having Memory but I need some suggestions ;D

Memory, Buffer, array, Pagefile (Windows virtual memory), SWAP (Linux virtual memory)

Hmm....Ima go with Memory :P

Alright now on to the subject of decks. At first I was going to give each player a deck of 40 or so cards but Ive realized that everyone will then have the same cards which sucks so now when you first start off you get a deck of 20 cards with basic cards(like when you install windows you get notepad, paint and stuff ;D) and then you can buy 2 free booster packs. The first booster packs which will be available are going to be Hacking and Security so you can expect to get worm, trojan cards in the Hacking pack and firewalls and stuff in Security pack. The packs will be random so players will have differing decks. As you can see Ima go for multiplayer support as a definite.

so I assume that when you win, you also get "money" or "memory to instal your programs/tools"

I also wanted to say that you can place card upside down, as laying traps or things like that
so the oppent doesn't know what you have laying ready for surprise attack :P

we all see where this is going..
Just rewrite as many MTG (magic the gathering) cards as possible and go with their rules.

What language are you going to write this in? if you don't mind me asking...?
Also will it be a windows form app or are you planning on using something like direct x or opengl?

The evilzone card game about computers and programs, a cardgame for hackers, designed for windows.

I would say that the chance for linux is rather big. But if the game works and is fun to play then i bet someone will port it :)

And as i said in previous post but never explained (thought it was obvious) is that take a look at the cards and rules from "magic the gathering" no need to re-invent the wheel
A fair warning tho, its a huge fucking game with thousands of cards and just as many rules

Well if it ever gets big(doubt it :P) I'll write it in C++ with cross-platform in mind but for now VB6 will do and I'll take a look at Magic The Gathering ;D

so that means you cant write proper c++?, otherwise you would chose that before vb:P.

Anyway,   +1 from me when it gets terminal style, then i will port it.
